About the Recipients

2025

Ayobami Bamigboye is a Nigerian scientist and engineer with a background in Biochemistry, and Software Engineering. He has applied computational modeling to biomedical challenges, including nanoparticle simulations for targeted cancer therapy. Beyond academics, he has led STEM access initiatives in Lagos (Professor Ogundipe Innovative Challenge), volunteered with CASA Voluntário do Porto in Portugal, and co-founded a podcast amplifying young innovators in Nigeria (The Grind). At Berkeley, he is pursuing a Master’s in Materials Science & Engineering, focusing on “Programmable Nanobiology” to develop nanoscale systems that improve global health and resilience.

The first recipient of funding from the Murray Slater Foundation is the Bioengineering Department at UC Berkeley, ranked in the top 10 for Bioengineering graduate and undergraduate programs in the US by the US News and World Report. The funding will go towards one of the Department’s ongoing engineering projects.
